Student Requirements
Students attending the trip must:
be enrolled in the AVID elective,
be in the 10th grade,
fundraise or pay for the entire cost of the trip before departing on the trip,
sign a code of conduct and expectations page,
keep a journal detailing their experiences at each college and their reaction to the campus, students, and events. The journal will serve as a basis for helping students choose a college appropriate for them. This journal will also be used by the AVID teachers in subsequent years to plan futures trips.
Parent Expectations
A parent or guardian must attend 2 meetings prior to the trip deadline in order to sign the expectation page with
their son/daughter.
If their son/daughter violates the contract, the parent/guardian will be required to make alternate travel arrangements for their child (i.e. picking them up, buying them a greyhound ticket home, etc.). Tours are being arranged in advance with university/college officials when possible.

Fundraising
Donations
All donations received by a student for the trip will be applied to the individual student’s cost for hotels and transportation. This money can not be applied towards the food costs, unless there is at least $40 in cash included in the donation. Any money above the student’s costs will go towards the JR Trip Fund, and will be applied equally to all the participants.
Club Sponsored Fundraising
All money received from club sponsored fundraising will go to the AVID Club account, and will be applied to the cost of transportation already incurred by the Club and for possible incidental costs during the trip.
All checks should be made payable to Montclair High School, with AVID written in the memo section.
Expectations
As a member of AVID, it is a privilege to attend the Sophomore Trip. Therefore, each student’s most mature and appropriate behavior is expected. On this trip, we will have a zero tolerance policy for any misbehavior.
1. All school policies are in effect for this trip, with the exception of electronic devices. Cell phones are encouraged on this trip.
2. Absolutely NO mixing of genders in hotel rooms. 3. Students will be required to abide by curfews, and they will remain in their hotel rooms until security measures
are removed. 4. To leave the group activities, tours, hotels, etc. at any time, students must be accompanied by a chaperone.
Any infraction of these (or school) regulations will necessitate the parent to travel and meet the group to pick up their student from the trip.
